Unfortunately, clothes detergent can’t get washable markers out of the fabric couch. However, there’s a way that won’t require you to clean the whole couch but only the stained spot.

1. A mixture of some dishwashing detergent and white vinegar

How to make the mixture:

Prepare a bowl where you will combine one tablespoon of dishwashing detergent, one tablespoon of vinegar, and two cups of cool water. Mix them well to create a cleaning solution.

Steps to follow:

• Step 1: Dampen the towel with warm or hot water. If you don’t have hot water, you can use room temperature water. Squeeze out excess water as it acts as your applicator.
• Step 2: Scoop a good amount of cleaning solution then spread it over the washable marker stain. Apply it in downward and upward movements. Make sure that the solution thoroughly penetrates the fabric. It should have the same action as the stain. There’s no need for scrubbing; just ensure that the cleaning solution covers the entire stain.
• Step 3: Give the solution half an hour to release the bond between the fabric and stain. You’ll see that the ink color loosens up and spreads around. Then, the floating stain appears.

• Be careful when dealing with the stain. You don’t need to scrub as that will only widen its scope. Dab it with a damp cloth every five minutes so the cleaning solution can take effect.

• Step 4: After the necessary time given to the solution, you can get a new cloth and buff the stain. In this step, you have to use a second towel as a remover to get the washable marker off the couch. It needs to be dry while in use. The first towel, as mentioned, is the applicator.

• The remover is the one that catches the stain that may be permanent. When the stain is completely rubbed off, the stain and grimes cling to the remover. There will be faint discoloration like grayish black or grayish-blue but it depends on the marker’s color.Don’t forget that you need to use the towel’s other side as you continue working on the stain. Once a certain part gets some ink, turn to the unused side to keep getting the stain off. You don’t want the ink that has already adhered to the towel to stick to the couch again.
